Monday Musings
Oct. 26, 2009- (The views expressed in this blog are the views of Bryan Benway, and may not be the views of the Laredo Bucks organization). Oh Hi Friends. Good Monday to you out there in blog land, I hope you were inside when it poured rain today in Laredo. I was inside at practice so I am safe.
I was at the last bit of Bucks practice this morning with the media, and I can tell you that it lasted longer than usual for a Monday practice. Normally Monday practices last til about 11:15-11:30am, but this one went until about 11:50 or so.
Nothing really notable to report out of practice, except for Igor Agarunov not wearing a yellow "injured, do not hit jersey" that he wore last week. He was back on the regular line and working on all of the drills. The mood at practice was light, considering the Bucks went 0-1-1 over the weekend. El Presidente Coach Rosco was hard at work teaching certain things at practice today. At times he was happy with what he saw, and at times he was not happy at all with what he saw. That's the way the cookie crumbles I guess.
During our Monday morning meeting today Rosco apologized to the staff for his team losing Saturday night, which was nice of him to do but he didn't have to. That's how badly he wants to win folks.
After practice today I nearly passed out when I walked in the locker room. It wasn't from the smell in there, but the fact that they were giving flu shots to everyone of the traveling party (players, Rosco, Bobby Moore, Matty Brayfield, myself). For those of you who don't know I am terrified of needles, and I usually pass out whenever I have to get a shot (except for tequila shots I can handle those). I estimate that I have had close to 50 doctor/nurse issued shots in my life, and have passed out from probably 45 of them (no joke). Needless to say I declined the flu shot today, to spare myself the hoopla of passing out, and embarrasing myself in front of the team.
I read quite a bit of e-mails yesterday about how much fun everyone had a opening night Saturday. The majority of the e-mails went like this (and i'm paraphrasing here) "I took my entire family to the game Saturday night and we had a blast! We really like how the family experience has been enhanced, and how the entertainment has changed and is different from the past. We are going to tell all of our friends and family about the new atmosphere in the arena! See you this weekend!"
I read around 100 or so e-mails that said that, and that's good news! We are very happy that you enjoyed it, and there's more where that came from.
Having said that, here is information on this weekend's games at the LEC. There is a lot of stuff going on at the games, so please take the time to read about it and pass it on to everyone else! Thanks!
Let's see, what else can we talk about here today.
Oh yeah, the Bucks are going to be all over the place this week at schools, pep rallies, dinners, etc. I can't remember the exact schools, but I know that Rosco and myself are at a pep rally tonight a Krueger Field, with school visits planned for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.
The only other bit of news that i'll pass along today is about James Hiebert signing with....hold your breath.....the Texas Brahmas. Those of us who are close to the team heard rumblings about this last Thursday, but heard nothing concrete until this morning. As of this writing the Brahmas have not announced the signing, but I spoke to some people that told me it's close to being official. Just imagine the scene on November 21st when Hiebert and the Brahmas travel to the LEC to play the Bucks. How will he be received? Cheered? Booed? Only time will tell.
If you have not already, check out the interviews that I conducted during Saturday's game with Bucks Majority Owner Glenn Hart, and Sheila Bes (Jeff's mom). I had a great time during both interviews, and I think they were good.
That's it for today. Check in for more info tomorrow. Thanks for reading!
Until next time,
It will be a hot one in the old town tonight!
