Bucks Swept By Sundogs

LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, were defeated by the Arizona Sundogs 5-3.

The Laredo Bucks played the Arizona Sundogs for the second straight game Saturday night.  Laredo fell to the Sundogs last night 3-1.

The Bucks were back to a full line-up, with Matt Boyd returning from a one game league suspension Saturday night.  Laredo spent most of the first period in the Arizona zone.  After putting pressure on the Sundogs behind their own net, Erik Boisvert was able to take the puck away and shoot it into the side of the net at 5:58.  This goal gave the Bucks a 1-0 lead.  Rusty Masters gave the Bucks a 2-0 at 18:41, when he scored a powerplay goal.  Matt Hanson took the initial strike and Rusty Masters was able to knock in the rebound.  The Bucks and Sundogs both had 16 shots during the period.

The second period was full of turnovers for both teams.  The Sundogs were able to take advantage of a turnover and scored a short-handed, unassisted goal at 4:52.  Arizona tied the game 2-2 late in the second, when Mike Gurtler scored at 18:57.  The Sundogs outshot the Bucks 21-4 in the frame.

The Bucks came out firing to begin play in the third period.  Matt Boyd gave the Bucks a 3-2 lead at 3:51.  Boyd was assisted by David Inman and Matt Pierce.  However, the Sundogs were able to battle back and score two goals to take a 4-3 lead.  The Bucks pulled Torrie Jung during the final minute of the game, but were unable to tie it up.  The Sundogs scored an empty net goal as time expired to give them the 5-3 win.
